Standon Bowers

Year 6 children left the school on Monday 24th June for their residential trip to Standon Bowers Outdoor Education Centre. Mrs Kowarin will try to send a daily blog to give us an idea of what they have been up to during the day (and night!)

Day 1 Monday 24th June

We arrived at Standon and put up our tents just as the heavens opened. It was a mad rush to get the waterproof outside layer up while the rain dripped off the end of our noses. This afternoon's activities were BMX, caving, bridge building, archery and blindfold trial. These were followed by a night walk and photo trail this evening. Hot chocolate and a quick story before bed and thankfully our tents have dried out!

Day 2 Tuesday 25th June

Wellies and waterproofs were well and truly needed this morning after an early wake up call from our noisy neighbours. We got pretty wet and soggy during our morning activities and took cover inside for lunch. This afternoon saw some new activities with both indoor and outdoor climbing. The children are having a fabulous time and the most frequently asked questions are "When are we having something to eat?" and "What time are we going to bed?"

Meet our noisy neighbours!!

Day 3 Wednesday 26th June

Most of our first dry was spent climbing, including the Gladiator wall, power fan and indoor/outdoor climbing. Lots of fears have been conquered and the children have worked as a real team to encourage and persuade their squad mates to take that extra step. The evening activity was a campfire: toasting marshmallows, singing and listening to stories from 100 years ago. The dry weather meant some free time spent outdoors and we also had some special vistors - Mrs Price, Miss Carr, Mr Kowarin and Woody.

Day 4 Thursday 27th June

After refuelling with a hearty breakfast we set off for the Roaches. We spent a busy day scrambling and walking up Hen Cloud. We were lucky enough to have Mr Oakes and Mrs Mottram join us for the day. We were told lots of tales from years gone by and had a picnic in the sunshine. This evening's activity was 'flying eggs', Miss Stubbs visited to be our design judge. Tomorrow brings our final day and all squad points will be totalled up. Who will be the winners, we have: Fantastic Fireeaters, Greatest Group, Brilliant Barnums, Crazy Clowns, Reining Ringmasters, Circus Clowns, Freaky Freaks and Foreign Frogs!
